Sport Bild reports that the rumoured contract extensions for Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer are not as nailed down as first thought.
Both contracts expire next summer, having signed one-year extensions last summer but question marks are rising about if Müller and Neuer will receive contract extensions in the near future.
For Neuer, Bayern wishes to wait to see how the goalkeeper performs once he returns from his broken leg against Darmstadt on Saturday. If the 37-year-old reaches his old form then Bayern will offer Neuer a new one-year extension. However, if he is a shadow of his former self his future could be called into question.
While for Müller, the 34-year-old believes that he is in good enough condition to play for another year but recently he has had to deal with being on the bench under Thomas Tuchel. However, Müller has also flirted with the idea of possible retirement next summer as a departure after a home Euro 2024 would provide the right departure for a player who has achieved as much as Müller has in his career.
Bayern will aim to begin talks with Müller towards the end of the year, while talks with Neuer have yet to be scheduled as they wait on his comeback.
