A huge sign of trust: Bochum have extended the contract of headcoach Dieter Hecking, which would have run out next month, until June 2027. The coach had the following to say about his contract extension:
“I have always emphasized how comfortable I feel at Bochum and that I can definitely imagine looking after this great club even in the event of relegation – if the conditions are right.”
Bochum are currently last in the Bundesliga and need to get at least 4 points out of the remaining two games (against Mainz and St. Pauli) in order to have a chance at getting hold of rank 16th – the highest possible position for Bochum this season.
If they can achieve this unlikely scenario, they will face the 3rd ranked team of the 2. Bundesliga in a relegation battle.
Dirk Dufner, the CEO Sport of VfL Bochum, praised Hecking’s work at Bochum: “We are all convinced that the constellation of Dieter Hecking and VfL Bochum is a very good fit for both sides and that he is the right coach for us – regardless of the league.”
