Tottenham Hotspur are beginning to set their sights on additions in the January transfer window, and manager Antonio Conte has already outlined a key position of interest, according to journalist Dean Jones.
What is the latest news involving Tottenham Hotspur?
Conte has made a decent start in his first full season in charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, securing progression to the Champions League knockout stages, and leading his side to a position of fourth in the Premier League standings.
However, to strengthen his side’s bid to fend off the likes of Manchester United and qualify for the Champions League again, the Italian manager is now plotting his January transfer business, with the likes of attacking-midfielder Marcus Edwards being tipped to join the club by journalist Paul Brown.
Another recent link is Everton winger Anthony Gordon, who Pete O’Rourke outlined as a long-term target for the North London side.
However, recent comments from Jones indicate that strengthening another area of the pitch is also of importance to Conte.
What has Jones said about Tottenham Hotspur?
Jones believes that a new centre-back is what the Tottenham recruitment team will be working towards securing in near future.
In an interview with GIVEMESPORT, he said: “It’s still slightly unclear exactly who they’re going to go for in this position but it’s definitely an area of the pitch that they are working on, and it will be something that Conte speaks about in the next two weeks.”
Who could Tottenham sign?
Tottenham have not managed to pick up a clean sheet in their last eight games, most recently shipping three at home to Leeds in a defensive display that jeopardized their chances of getting three points, so it is no wonder that Conte wants to strengthen in defence.
The question remains of who should come in, however, and a recent Football Insider report has indicated that Stefan de Vrij is Conte’s man of choice, with the 30-year-old already being contacted by the club about the potential switch.
Dubbed a “monster” by Brazilian centre-back Mauricio, De Vrij looks like a perfect option, owing to the fact that he has worked with Conte before, playing a key role in Inter Milan’s 2021-21 Serie A winning season.
Another possibility is RB Leipzig’s Mohamed Simakan, with Fabrizio Romano telling WettFreunde that there is interest on Spurs’ behalf, and at just 22, he could be a better long-term purchase.
The versatile Frenchman caught the eye in a recent performance against Real Madrid, notching an assist and a SofaScore rating of 7.8 in an impressive all-round display.
