Conte ‘planning with Paratici and Levy’ over January transfer window

Tottenham Hotspur may need to bring a “couple of bodies in” during the January transfer market, according to Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge.

The Lilywhites are now able to prepare for the January market as a Champions League side, after securing their progression to the knockout stages earlier this month.

What’s the latest at Tottenham?

It is still thought that head coach Antonio Conte would like to add a left-sided centre-back to his squad if possible, with Tottenham having failed in their pursuits for players such as Inter Milan and Italy’s Alessandro Bastoni, and Villarreal and Spain’s Pau Torres in the summer window.

According to 90min, Spurs are still interested in a deal worth more than £40m for the latter this season, with moves to Aston Villa and Chelsea also a possibility.

Meanwhile, the north London side are also rumoured to be looking at more attacking reinforcements, with Everton’s Anthony Gordon and Atalanta’s Ruslan Malinovskyi.

And Bridge thinks that Conte can begin to plan for January with the director of football Fabio Paratici and chairman Daniel Levy, with the club’s Champions League status secured.

What has Bridge said about Tottenham?

Bridge told GIVEMESPORT: “I think for Antonio Conte, he can now plan as a Champions League side.

“He can now plan with Paratici and Levy in January because I think they need a couple of bodies in.

“They’re so light on the bench.”

What could happen at Tottenham in January?

Despite it being a close shave, Tottenham’s Champions League status will no doubt widen the transfer targets available to them in the new year, with the Conte likely to want to improve the squad’s depth ahead of the second half of the campaign.

The Italian will likely be insistent on the addition of another centre-back, with Torres in line to become one of the club’s primary transfer targets in the winter.

Sources in Portugal also indicate that Sporting Lisbon’s Pedro Porro could be a target for the Lilywhites, though the signing of another right-back doesn’t seem like a necessity at the moment, with the club possessing the services of Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty and Djed Spence in that position.

The Express has also reported that Tottenham could make a move for Fenerbahçe starlet Arda Güler in the winter, though the 17-year-old may not be the proven first-team talent that Conte desires to get his side through the latter half of the season.

It looks like it could be an interesting January window for Paratici and Levy, and Conte will be hoping that come the end of the market, he will have secured at least a couple of reinforcements to increase the depth available at his disposal.
