Tottenham Hotspur could reignite their interest in Atalanta star Ruslan Malinovskyi and ‘decide to return’ to the negotiating table when the transfer window reopens at Hotspur Way, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Having spent close to £150million during the summer, Spurs head coach Antonio Conte will be handed another opportunity to bolster his squad in January.
What’s the latest news involving Malinovskyi?
Speaking on the House of Champions Podcast, Romano has revealed that Malinovskyi ‘remains a player appreciated by Tottenham’.
The transfer guru suggests the north Londoners lodged a loan bid for the 51-cap Ukraine international during the summer window, but Atalanta rejected the proposal.
It is understood that Spurs are not the only side keeping tabs on Malinovskyi’s situation as Nottingham Forest, West Ham United and Marseille are also mulling over whether to make a move, but his current employers will be seeking upwards of £26million in January.
French giants Marseille could reportedly accelerate talks with the attacking midfielder after Amine Harit sustained a serious injury prior to the break from domestic football.
Malinovskyi’s suitors may look to tie him down to a pre-contract agreement at the turn of the year, when he is due to enter the final six months of his £19,000-per-week Atalanta deal.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Malinovskyi?
Romano understands that Tottenham are keen to improve their midfield options during the January transfer window and Malinovskyi was a target earlier this year.
The journalist is keen to see whether the capital club will reignite negotiations with Atalanta during the early stages of 2023.
Romano told GIVEMESPORT: “I think midfield is the position they want to cover. They wanted Malinovskyi in the summer but, in the end, Atalanta didn’t accept a loan deal.
“This is why it was not possible, but let’s see whether Tottenham will decide to return for Malinovskyi or go for a different kind of player.”
Would Malinovskyi be a good signing for Tottenham?
Malinovskyi has been in underwhelming form this season, having only contributed a solitary goal and two assists in 14 appearances, but he has found opportunities hard to come by and been restricted to five starts.
The 29-year-old has shown throughout his career that he is capable of being a serious threat in the final third of the pitch, having racked up 142 goal contributions at club level.
Romano has previously revealed that Malinovskyi ‘dreams’ of a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, further strengthening the north Londoners’ hopes of securing the playmaker’s services, and that could be a major boost during a transfer window which is known to be particularly difficult to strike deals.
