Conor McGregor has placed a bold wager on UFC 314’s co-main event on Saturday, the 12th of April, which is between lightweight pairing Michael Chandler and Paddy Pimblett.
The 155-pound clash takes place at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, before featherweight fighters Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes are contesting. Patricio ‘Pitbull’ Freire makes his long-awaited UFC debut against Yair Rodriguez, earlier on the main card, which ESPN airs from 8 p.m. PT / 11 p.m. ET as a pay-per-view.
McGregor is linked to both fighters in the co-feature as he was due to fight Chandler last summer at International Fight Week, but withdrew with one month to go because of a broken pinky toe. As a former Cage Warriors champion, the Irishman has something in common with Pimblett, too.
McGregor’s prediction and bet for the fight may come as a surprise.

Conor McGregor Makes Insane UFC 314 Bet
McGregor backs Michael Chandler to win in dominant fashion
McGregor is backing Chandler to not only defeat Pimblett, but to do so by knockout. It would be quite a victory for the American, considering he has lost more UFC fights than he’s won, a he’d be putting a halt to a winning run Pimblett has enjoyed since entering the market-leading MMA firm.
It would also make Pimblett eat his own words, considering he said earlier this week, and on occasion in the past, that people from his region in Britain do not get knocked out.
“What’s up, everybody,” McGregor said to his social media followers on Saturday. “It’s the ‘Notorious’ … I want to wish you all a great fight night tonight, and come through for my best bet of the night.”
“The fight I’m interested in is Michael Chandler vs Paddy Pimblett. And I’m going Michael Chandler to win, and win by KO.”
“Though Paddy has improved in his last few outings, I still fancy Chandler to do it. Let’s go, boys.”
The bet, per Happy Punch, would see McGregor receive a payout of $2.5 million.
McGregor isn’t the only prominent figure to have placed a bet on how they expect UFC 314 to play out, with smash-hit rapper Drake backing Volkanovski to beat Lopes with a $545,000 bet.

Pimblett vs Chandler is receiving a significant amount of attention even though it’s just one of 13 fights on the card, and not even the headline bout, which belongs to Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes, who compete for the UFC featherweight title. Elsewhere, Patricio ‘Pitbull’ Friere debuts against Yair Rodriguez at featherweight.
