Conor McGregor of ‘Recent Years’ is Gone Forever

The Conor McGregor of “recent years” is gone forever, according to one of his closest business partners, and it perhaps bodes well for the probability of him returning to the UFC in the coming months.

McGregor, 37, hasn’t fought since back-to-back knockout losses to Dustin Poirier in 2021 and, in the five years since, has attracted controversy outside the cage.

While he was linked with a fight against Michael Chandler for the 30th of June, 2024, the bout was nixed when the Irishman withdrew from the contest, citing a broken pinky toe. Chandler has clung to the “red panty night” but it has only been in recent months, when news of an event held at The White House came to the fore, when speculation mounted that, maybe, McGregor could compete on that show.

Now, comments from his business partner at Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, the founder Dave Feldman, seem to suggest he’s taken training, and a comeback, seriously.

Conor McGregor is a Changed Man, Says David Feldman

Speaking via The Ariel Helwani Show, Feldman said:

“I’ve never seen Conor McGregor like this, more focused than I ever thought he could be.”

Footage has already emerged of McGregor back in the gym, drilling techniques in mixed martial arts and his speciality discipline, striking. But Feldman said it’s not just his approach to the gym, and dedication to training, but his nutrition, too. He also hinted that he’s a changed person.

“He trains like crazy every day. He eats properly. He goes to church. He does everything he’s supposed to do. This is not the Conor McGregor we’ve seen in recent years.”

If it were all true, and McGregor were to fight once again, he may no longer compete against Chandler, whom he was supposed to fight in 2024 but withdrew from the bout with only weeks to go, citing a broken pinky toe. If the McGregor vs Chandler bout were gone forever, this is a chance that the former superstar could return against Justin Gaethje.

“If … McGregor’s going to fight me, we’ll be the main event [at The White House],” Gaethje said Thursday on The Pat McAfee Show.

“If Ilia [Topuria] doesn’t come back, they’d strip him, I’d become the undisputed [champion], and then McGregor gets to fight whoever he wants. I guess that would be an option.”
