Confirmed: Balanta joins Schalke

Eder Balanta has put pen to paper on a six-month loan deal with Schalke 04.

FC Schalke 04 have sealed the signing of Eder Balanta on a six-month loan from Club Brugge.


“The signing of Éder will provide us with more flexibility, international experience and a physical presence, which will help our squad and give our coach more options,” stated Schalke board member for sport Peter Knäbel.

Head coach Thomas Reis added:

“We are gaining a very robust defensive midfielder who is good at winning challenges and is defined by his physicality. I’m convinced that his style of play will help ease the pressure on our defence and be of benefit to us.”

Balanta, a 29-year-old defensive midfielder, has made 13 appearances for Brugge this season.
