Christophe Galtier on Kylian Mbappé’s commitment to PSG: “I don’t need to convince him.”

Kylian Mbappé’s post-match comments in the wake of Paris Saint-Germain’s latest Champions League round of 16 appeared to manifest a growing frustration at the club’s transfer activity and its inability to compete on the continental stage.

The Frenchman, having recognised that Bayern Munich had a squad “built” for European success, then asserted that the showing in Bavaria was the “maximum” that the Ligue 1 leaders could achieve.

Asked about those remarks in his press conference this afternoon, manager Christophe Galtier dismissed the idea that Mbappé would need any convincing about the PSG project to stay on, under a year on from his lucrative contract extension amid strong interest from Real Madrid:

“I don’t need to convince him. He spoke up, but if you had asked any other player they would have also shown their disappointment. Kylian is a PSG player, he’s determined to succeed, to perform well, and take the club as high as possible.”

PSG will now focus their efforts on securing a record-breaking eleventh Ligue 1 title. They travel to Brittany eight points clear and on a run of three straight victories, a return to form sparked by Mbappé’s match-winning double against Marseille at the Stade Vélodrome. The World Cup winner remains under contract for another season after this summer, although whether his one-year extension clause will be triggered beyond that remains in doubt.
