One of the key contributors to AJ Auxerre’s early success in Ligue 1 this season could soon be on the move. Fabrizio Romano reports that MLS side Chicago Fire are negotiating with the Burgundy club to try and acquire Gaëtan Perrin (28).
The attacker has been instrumental for AJA so far this season, scoring five goals and four assists domestically in 2024-25.
Born in Lyon, Perrin spent his entire career in France, playing at the youth level for Olympique Lyonnais before moving to Orléans.
He’s made over 100 appearances for Auxerre. According to Romano, the MLS club, who are now being managed by former United States men’s national team coach Gregg Berhalter, made an initial offer below €5m to acquire Perrin’s services. That was not enough to convince the French side to allow their attacker to leave. Talks, however, are ongoing.
Perrin has been a mainstay with AJA since he arrived in 2021, and the Frenchman has a terrific 2023-24 campaign, finishing second in Ligue 2 for assists (10). He also led the league in big chances created with 18. Perrin’s current deal with AJA expires in June 2026.
