According to Fabrizio Romano, two unnamed Premier League clubs attempted to sign Lyon’s Rayan Cherki (20) this summer. Amidst the reported interest from Chelsea during the summer transfer window, the Italian journalist has confirmed that the Blues were never advanced in negotiations or close to signing him.
Lyon resisted the attempts of two English top flight clubs to keep their academy graduate at the Groupama Stadium this summer. Chelsea admire him but never got close to signing the 20-year-old with Lyon firm in their stance he wasn’t for sale. The French U21 international was also linked with Newcastle, Aston Villa and West Ham during the transfer window.
The French attacking midfielder is viewed as one of the most promising talents to ever graduate from OL’s academy and losing him this summer would have dealt the club another major blow following the departures of fellow academy graduates Bradley Barcola to PSG and Castello Lukeba to RB Leipzig.
