Chelsea tried to bring in AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan over the summer transfer window and the Frenchman is once again being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge
There is nothing in speculation that Chelsea have reopened contact with Mike Maignan’s representatives ahead of a future move, football.london understands.
While the French goalkeeper is someone very much admired by the Blues, who tried bringing him to Stamford Bridge over the summer transfer window, it’s understood there is nothing in fresh rumours over the west Londoners making a new move for him. Reports from abroad claim that Chelsea have reopened talks with Maignan’s entourage with the goalkeeper making it clear he will not extend his contract – that expires at the end of the season – at AC Milan. football.london understands, though, that is not the case.
Back in the summer, Maignan had around 12 months remaining on his deal at the San Siro, and Chelsea thought they could bring him to the club for a cut-price fee. Milan, however, were adamant that they would not accept anything less than £25million, and the Blues ended up walking away from negotiations.
football.london reported last month that Chelsea have no plans to bring a new goalkeeper to the club over the January transfer window. The Blues are more than happy with their options in that position, with Robert Sanchez currently playing better than ever since arriving in 2023.
Sanchez is the undisputed No.1 in west London and that has created some problems for Filip Jorgensen. Since arriving at the club in the summer of 2024, Jorgensen has played understudy to Sanchez and is understood to be desperate for some more regular game time this season.
The Danish shot-stopper is open to exploring his options in the January transfer window. Chelsea, though, will not entertain a loan move for Jorgensen, with the club perfectly content with their goalkeeper options at the time of writing.
Asked to clarify speculation over Jorgensen’s future last week, head coach Enzo Maresca said: “I spoke with Filip at the beginning of the season and I didn’t speak with Filip in the last days about that.
“I think all the players that they don’t play a lot or they don’t use to play, they would like to get more minutes, more games, it’s completely normal. But I didn’t speak with Filip.”
