In a recent report, Sport claimed that Chelsea are preparing to launch a move for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde. It has been mentioned that the Blues are leading the race as they look set to beat their competition in pursuit of the French centre-back this summer.
Kounde’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football This Season
Kounde has proven himself to be a dominant presence at the heart of Sevilla’s backline. The 23-year-old has found the back of the net three times and secured one assist in 44 matches for the French club this season across various competitions.
The nine-time France international has proven himself to be a solid defender at the back after he averaged 1.3 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 3.1 clearances per 90 minutes in La Liga.
He has even been excellent with his ball distribution after making 88.9% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
Is Kounde A Dream Signing For Chelsea?
Kounde has been a solid presence at the centre of the Sevilla defence over the past few years. He can spot the danger quickly and doesn’t mind clearing his lines when the opposition are on the front foot.
The French sensation can time his tackles well to secure the ball back for his side and is proficient at making some crucial blocks in and around his penalty box. However, there are some concerns over whether Kounde would be able to maintain his good form in Premier League football where he will be tested physically every week.
The Sevilla star would enhance the overall quality of Thomas Tuchel‘s defence and could prove himself to be a decent replacement for Antonio Rudiger, whose contract at Stamford Bridge runs out this month.
There is no denying that Kounde has got the skillset to become a real star for the West London club if Tuchel can somehow manage to get a deal over the line for him in this off-season. With all things considered, the La Liga talent will be a dream signing for the Blues to consider before the start of the new campaign.
