Chelsea now set for ‘fresh talks’ with £80m duo at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea will speak to N’Golo Kante and Jorginho about new contracts again after the World Cup, says journalist Simon Phillips.

Previous talks over extending their expiring deals did not lead anywhere, according to Phillips, but he expects the Blues to resume discussions with both players soon.

Chelsea contract news – N’Golo Kante and Jorginho

Last month, journalist Robin Bairner informed GIVEMESPORT that talks between Chelsea and Kante over a new contract had broken down due to a disagreement on length.

As for Jorginho, his wage demands seem to be the sticking point with his discussions with the west London club.

In October, Phillips told GMS that the 30-year-old wants to stay at Stamford Bridge but the salary he is asking for is causing problems. Kante and Jorginho are out of contract at the end of the season, so Graham Potter is at risk of losing both midfielders for nothing if something is not sorted out soon.

As per BBC Sport, the former cost Chelsea £30m when he joined from Leicester City back in 2016. The latter, on the other hand, was bought from Napoli for £50m, according to the same outlet.

What has Simon Phillips said about N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Chelsea?

Phillips says Chelsea will speak to Kante and Jorginho about new deals again when the World Cup is over.

Talking to GMS, the journalist said: “Talks haven’t progressed with either of them. They are expected to speak again after the World Cup, but they’ve been miles apart with terms for both players.

“So unless one of them meets in the middle, then I can only see them both leaving as free agents. So that’s two players there that Chelsea could need to replace straight away.”

N’Golo Kante’s salary

Kante is currently one of the highest earners at Stamford Bridge. According to Spotrac, the Frenchman takes home £290,000 a week.

It is a lot of money, but it is not hard to see why Chelsea were happy to hand him such an expensive contract.

When the 31-year-old is fit and playing, he is easily one of the best midfielders in the world. As per FBref, he has ranked in the 86th percentile for progressive passes, the 94th for dribbles completed and the 89th for interceptions among his positional peers over the last year.

Jorginho’s salary

Jorginho is earning less than his team-mate, with Spotrac claiming that his existing deal is worth £110,000 a week.

He has been at Chelsea for a while now, helping the Blues to win multiple honours, including the Champions League.

Considering that, you can see why the Italy international would want a pay rise. Whether Chelsea will be willing to give both him and Kante what they want, though, remains to be seen.
