Chelsea ‘love’ £106m star with deal now close at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea may try ‘one more time’ to sign £112m star at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea ‘love’ Enzo Fernandez and the ‘narrative has really shifted’ towards them completing a deal for the Benfica star, Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has told GIVEMESPORT.

The BBC reported on Monday that the Blues have now made a bid of £105.6m to meet the player’s release clause as a move looks to be edging closer ahead of the transfer deadline on Tuesday night.

Chelsea latest transfer news – Enzo Fernandez

Chelsea have brought in six new faces in January but the one player they have wanted all month is the 2022 World Cup winner.

The Blues had previously failed to meet the €120m (£106m) release clause that Benfica were demanding but as we move towards the window slamming shut it appears as though the London club have raised their offer to that amount – now we wait on Rui Costa to either accept or reject the proposal given it does include instalments.

If a move does happen it would eclipse the current British transfer record of the £100m fee that Manchester City paid to sign Jack Grealish, which would be a huge statement of intent in a window in which owner Todd Boehly has already signed Mykhaylo Mudryk, Noni Madueke and signed Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid.

With just 24 hours until the deadline, we will find out sooner rather than later whether Chelsea can get this deal done but Taylor believes the narrative has shifted from earlier in the month.

What did Taylor say about Chelsea and Fernandez?

The journalist told GIVEMESPORT that the Blues ‘love’ the Argentina international and believes that a deal looks to be getting closer.

He said: “It’s clear that Chelsea love Enzo. There’s a clear ambition and appetite to spend big on him, particularly now the Caicedo interest has died down again. I think the narrative has really shifted back to Fernandez.”

Would Fernandez complete the perfect transfer window?

You would have to say so. Things may not be great on the pitch at the moment at Chelsea but the same can’t be said for their ambition and actions in terms of the transfer window.

The Blues are building a great squad for the future with the likes of Andrey Santos, Benoit Badiashile, Malo Gusto and Mudryk, and adding a 22-year-old Fernandez would only add to that.

Chelsea will want to move up from their current 10th position in the standings, but from the 2023/24 season things will be looking very exciting if they can get a deal for the Benfica man in the next 24 hours.
