RC Strasbourg Alsace manager Gary O’Neil has said that Chelsea loanee Aarón Anselmino (20) is frustrated amid his continued injury issues.
In Friday’s post-match press conference, which followed a 1-1 draw against RC Lens, O’Neil said that Anselmino continues to struggle with a hamstring injury, which hampered his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund during the first half of the season.
“Aarón has an ‘awareness’ in the same hamstring that caused him problems during his loan at Borussia Dortmund […] with Aarón, we’ll need to check,” said the Englishman in a press conference attended by Get French Football News.
Speaking on Monday, ahead of Tuesday’s Coupe de France encounter against Stade de Reims, O’Neil confirmed Anselmino’s continued absence. “He is frustrated, but we won’t take any risks with him,” began the former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bournemouth manager. “We want him available for the long-term, not just one or two matches.”
Anselmino has made only two short substitute appearances since making the move to Strasbourg in January. His loan was to compensate for the departure of Mamadou Sarr, who was recalled by parent club Chelsea.
