Bild reports that Chelsea are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel in the summer as they look to upgrade the position.
The Premier League side are said to be prepared to pay €70m for the Swiss goalkeeper in the summer. This matter will become increasingly prevalent if Dortmund fail to qualify for the Champions League this season. On top of this, the large fee received from Kobel will then allow Dortmund to fund another much-needed squad overhaul in the summer.
This explains Dortmund’s move for Ajax goalkeeper Diant Ramaj. The German international is set to join Dortmund this month for €5m before then being sent on loan to Danish side Copenhagen. This contingency planning will also mean that Ramaj can then be promoted to Dortmund’s number one if Kobel does leave.
Chelsea’s current number one is Robert Sanchez but the Spanish keeper has not instilled confidence with his performances in goal this season.
