Bayern Munich were Bundesliga champions for a 10 minute spell after fighting back from 2-0 down to lead RB Leipzig 3-2, before conceding a late equaliser in a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Red Bull Arena.
After finding themselves 2-0 down at the break, goals from Eric Dier (62’) and Michael Olise (63’) in a 46 second spell brought Bayern level before Leroy Sané’s 11th goal of the season in the 84th minute had wrapped, what Bayern fans thought, the Meisterschale up. But an equaliser from Yussuf Poulsen in the fourth minute of stoppage time means that Bayern will have to wait just that little bit longer.
With a +30 goal difference over Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern are practically champions, retaking their crown from Bayer Leverkusen who must beat Freiburg on Sunday.
Bayern Munich have, at times, certainly looked beatable this season despite only two Bundesliga defeats but in truth, no one has been able to compete with them. Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen have looked a shadow of their former selves while Eintracht Frankfurt never had the squad depth to last for 34 games, while RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund have been well off the pace this season.
