Celtic are in the running to sign Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 23-year-old joined Chelsea from Molde in January 2023, but has found opportunities limited in west London.
Fofana arrived at Chelsea with high expectations following an impressive spell in Norway, where he scored 24 goals in 65 appearances for Molde.
He was loaned out to Union Berlin for the first half of the 2023/24 season, then to Burnley later that same season, but neither spell yielded the breakthrough he hoped for.
The 2024/25 campaign also saw Fofana go on another loan stint, this time to Goztepe, and he has since remained in Turkey, currently plying his trade with Fatih Karagumruk.
With three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract, Chelsea are seeking a permanent exit for the Ivorian this winter.
Alongside Celtic, Royal Antwerp and Derby County are also keen on acquiring Fofana, who recently scored a double in Karagumruk’s 2-2 draw against Alanyaspor.
Celtic’s interest in Fofana goes back to last summer, when they tabled a loan offer to Chelsea.
Fofana turned down the Hoops in favour of a proposed loan to Championship side Charlton Athletic, seeking guaranteed minutes in England.
However, that decision backfired when Charlton failed to complete the paperwork in time, leaving the striker in limbo.
With a six-point gap to make up in the Scottish Premiership title race, Celtic could really do with January reinforcements.
After a disappointing 3-1 defeat to rivals Rangers in their first outing of 2026, Martin O’Neil’s men wasted no time returning to winning ways against Dundee United on Saturday.
