VfL Wolfsburg will be without first-choice goalkeeper Koen Casteels when they take on league leaders Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Saturday afternoon.

As Wolfsburg coach Niko Kovac confirmed at a press conference on Thursday, the 31-year-old is out with an abdominal inflammation and will be replaced by Pavao Pervan.

“I received the information this morning that Casteels is not ready for the weekend. We will put Pavao Pervan in goal. He will deputise for him as well as he has done in the past,” said Kovac, who didn’t want to reveal how long Casteels is expected to be out.

He went on to reveal that Vaclav Cerny will also miss out after picking up an injury on international duty with the Czech Republic.

“Vaclav Cerny has come back from the national team with an infection. He will not be an alternative for the weekend either,” Kovac said.
