Carlo Ancelotti spoke to the media after Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Real Valladolid on Friday.
The Italian head coach was happy with the three points against Valladolid, a win that sees his side climb to the top of the table.
“We had to win to end this unforgettable year well,” he said at the José Zorrilla stadium in quotes transcribed by Marca.
Ancelotti admitted that his team were not at their best on the night. “We didn’t defend well, that’s the truth, but it was a game we had to win. The game was difficult, but in the second half, we did well.
“In the end, we came away with the three points and with great performances from Benzema and Courtois, which is important”.
Ancelotti expects Benzema to have a great second half of the season: “I saw him looking sharp before this game. He looks motivated and confident and I think that in this part of the season we will see a different Benzema”.
