Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti pointed towards the brace netted by Arsenal star Declan Rice on Tuesday as reason to believe that his side can turn the tie around.
Real Madrid are of course fresh off being put to the sword in frankly alarming fashion last night.
After making the trip to north London for the first leg of the club’s Champions League quarter-final tie with Arsenal, Los Blancos found themselves condemned to the wrong side of a 3-0 result.
The aforementioned Declan Rice proved himself the star of the show at The Emirates, notching the hosts’ first and second goals courtesy of a pair of stunning free-kicks.
And though as much proved a heavy blow for his side on Tuesday, Carlo Ancelotti considers such exploits on Rice’s part as the perfect evidence for why the tie is not over.
Drawn on Real Madrid’s slim chances of advancing to the semi-finals of the Champions League courtesy of a comeback triumph in Spain next week, the Italian explained:
“We must believe and try to make something magic happen in the second leg. In football everything can happen, for example Declan Rice who scored two free-kicks as he never did in his career.”
