Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Karim Benzema will play in their crucial Champions League match against Liverpool on Wednesday. The French striker missed their weekend game against Espanyol Barcelona due to a painful ankle, but Ancelotti stated in a press conference attended by L’Équipe that Benzema had recovered and would be at 100% for the match.
“I feel good. On Wednesday, Karim Benzema will be 100 per cent.” said Ancelotti, adding “He came back for the collective training on Sunday, and he had done some good work sessions before. He’s at full strength, motivated. For Karim, for the club, this is a very important competition.”
Ancelotti also addressed Benzema’s strained relationship with French national team coach Didier Deschamps, stating that it was a personal matter and not something the striker discussed. However, the coach expressed his respect for both individuals, noting that Deschamps had played under him at Juventus in 1999.
The upcoming match against Liverpool is a crucial one for both teams, with Real Madrid leading 5-2 from the first leg. Benzema’s presence will be important for the Spanish side as they look to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
