BVB transfer target set to sign for Newcastle, Moukoko extension may be near

Both RMC Sport and Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano currently report that one of Dortmund’s transfer targets is set to sign for Newcastle instead. German football has missed out on Hugo Ekitike.

As reported by German footballing magazine Kicker, the BVB may be preparing to lock down their own teenage phenom instead. A new deal for 17-year-old Youssoufa Moukoko may be in sight.

Nineteen-year-old center-forward Hugo Ekitike, frequently linked with Borussia Dortmund, is reportedly headed to St. James Park instead of Signal Iduna. FC Bayern München were also loosely tied to the French youngster in the rumor mills. A big money move away from Stade de Reims for the €28-million-valued teenage talent has been treated as a given this summer.

Fabrizio Romano and RMC Sport now report that the German clubs have lost out to the better financially backed Newcastle United. As concerns the BVB, there is renewed hope that the club can come to a longer-term arrangement with their own occasionally estranged teenage phenom. Youssoufa Moukoko may sign a contract extension soon.

“Youssoufa and [newly re-appointed head-coach] Edin [Terzic] have a very close relationship,” club boss Hans-Joachim Watzke recently told German footballing magazine Kicker, “With the new coach, there’s a decent chance he will extend.”

Moukoko’s current contract only runs through the end of next season.
