BVB searching for another victory

Borussia Dortmund have won all seven of their competitive games in 2023, and they will be aiming to claim an eighth straight victory when they face Hertha BSC on Sunday.

Dortmund will be in a confident mood after they claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the first leg of their Champions League tie on Tuesday. Karim Adeyemi’s solo effort proved to be the only goal of the game, securing his side their seventh consecutive victory in all competitions.

With the second leg set to take place on March 7, Dortmund will turn their attention back to league matters in the meantime. Edin Terzic’s side have the chance to move level on points with Bayern Munich after the reigning champions were beaten 3-2 by Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday.

Dortmund have fared well in their head-to-head games with Hertha, winning seven of their last eight top flight meetings. They have also found the net in all bar one of their 35 Bundesliga matches against Sunday’s opponents.

Die Schwarzgelben have only lost one of their nine home league games this season. Their last four home Bundesliga matches have all produced victories, and after scoring 17 goals across those four games they will believe that they have the firepower to claim all three points on Sunday.

Dortmund are expected to be without the services of Marius Wolf, Matue Morey, Julien Duranville, Abdoulaye Kamara and Youssoufa Moukoko due to injury issues.

Hertha began the year with four straight defeats, conceding 13 goals in that period. Last weekend, however, it was their turn to hand out a thrashing, as they claimed a 4-1 home victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Jessic Ngankam restored parity on the half-hour mark after Nico Elvedi had given Glabach the lead. Márton Dárdai Hertha put Hertha in front in the 52nd minute before stoppage time goals from Derry Scherhant and Dodi Lukebakio sealed a memorable win.

The victory move Hertha out of the automatic relegation places and into the playoff spot. They are now two points adrift of safety and will move out of the drop zone with a win on Sunday.

However, away wins have been hard to come by for a Hertha side who have recorded just one league victory on their travels this season. After losing their last five Bundesliga games on the road, they will be aiming to avoid a sixth consecutive away defeat against Dortmund.

Team News

Wilfried Kanga, Peter Pekarik, Chidera Ejuke and Kelian Nsona are all sidelined for the hosts, while there are doubts over Stevan Jovetic’s availability. Meanwhile, Agustin Rogel could be available after returning to full training on training.
