BVB confirm shoulder surgery to sideline Dahoud until November, Bynoe-Gittens also has dislocation

Speaking to the DAZN microphones shortly before kickoff of Friday evening, BVB trainer Edin Terzic confirmed that midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud would be missing until November after the team doctors decided that his shoulder injury necessitated surgery.

In a most unwelcome coincidence, Terzic also confirmed that a shoulder injury had kept Jamie Bynoe-Gittens from coming out for the second half.

Terzic spoke of how the team’s medical staff had hoped that the, as is the case sometimes, the type of shoulder dislocation Dahoud had been dealing with would mend itself. Dortmund will certainly be hoping that this proves the case with young English phenom Jamie Bynoe Gittens.

Bynoe-Gittens did not emerge from the tunnel to play the second half during Friday’s narrow 1-0 victory over Hoffenheim. Afterwards, the club confirmed that the 18-year-old had also dislocated his shoulder. Medics managed to pop it back in on the sidelines during the opening 45, but recommended that the teenager not continue after the restart.

A separated shoulder does not necessarily translate to a long spell on the sidelines. Depending on the nature, severity, and extent of the breakage, the injury can sometimes be so minute that the player needn’t miss any time at all. To take a recent example also involving the BVB, Nico Schlotterbeck’s shoulder also popped out during the matchday one win over Leverkusen.

Medics reset it during the match and the German national team defender has not missed a minute of action since.
