In this weekly feature, hosts of the Gegenpressing podcast Stefan Bienkowski and Manu Veth face off with their predictions for the forthcoming Bundesliga matchday fixtures. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?
Manu’s Game of the Week: Borussia Dortmund vs Schalke
Hard to look beyond the Revierderby on matchday 7. I actually previewed this game in-depth on the Gegenpressing Newsletter. I sense that for both clubs this is a huge game beyond the usual narrative. Both Dortmund and Schalke are looking for some sort of direction after years of wilderness. For the neutral, it is simply great to have the mother of all derbies back in German football.
Manu’s predictions:
- Mainz 2-1 Hertha Berlin
- Augsburg 1-1 Bayern Munich
- Bayer Leverkusen 3-1 Werder Bremen
- Stuttgart 2-1 Eintracht Frankfurt
- Borussia Dortmund 3-2 Schalke
- Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-2 RB Leipzig
- Union Berlin 3-1 Wolfsburg
- Bochum 1-3 FC Köln
- Hoffenheim 1-2 Freiburg
Stefan’s Game of the Week: Hoffenheim vs Freiburg
While there may be more high profile games available for Bundesliga fans this weekend, I can’t help but be enticed by Freiburg’s trip to Sinsheim. Not only is it the best home side locking horns with the best away side in terms of form in the league, but it’s also a clash between two excellent, attacking teams that have hit the ground running this season. It should be an exciting, hard-fought match.
Stefan’s predictions:
- Mainz 2-1 Hertha Berlin
- Borussia Dortmund 2-1 Schalke
- Bayer Leverkusen 3-1 Werder Bremen
- Augsburg 0-2 Bayern Munich
- Stuttgart 0-1 Eintracht Frankfurt
- Borussia Mönchengladbach 1-1 RB Leipzig
- Union Berlin 2-0 Wolfsburg
- Bochum 0-2 FC Koln
Scores after MD6: Manu – 31, Stefan – 24.
