The transfer of Fortuna Düsseldorf’s Christos Tzolis to Belgium’s Club Brugge has been officially confirmed.

The rumored transfer of Greek international Christos Tzolis from Fortuna Düsseldorf to Club Brugges has been officially confirmed. The 22-year-old made use of an exit clause in the contract he just signed with the 2. Bundesliga side to depart for greener pastures. Even though the 2023/24 promotion-relegation playoff losers would have preferred to keep their leading goal-scorer, the Flingeraner can at least take some solace in the fact that they’ve flipped Tzolis for a handsome profit.

The F95 purchased Tzolis from Norwich for a reported €3.5 million. Brugges have now paid nearly double that amount for the player. Düsseldorf director of sport and communications Klaus Allofs and sporting director Christin Weber both thanked the player for his contribution to his German club in released statements. Allofs also ruminated on  the sporting loss and financial gain.

“What was to be expected has happened,” Allofs’ statement read, “From a sporting point-of-view, we would have preferred nothing more than to keep Christos with us. From an economic perspective, however, it is a necessary and positive transfer for Fortuna.”
