Brighton considering Arsenal’s Albert Sambi Lokonga as alternative to Lille’s Carlos Baleba

According to Fabrizio Romano, Brighton and Hove Albion have submitted a new offer for Lille midfielder Carlos Baleba. The offer is worth a reported €25m plus add-ons, whilst Arsenal’s Albert Sambi Lokonga (23) is being considered as an alternative.

According to the Italian journalist, as things stand, there is no agreement between the Seagulls and Les Dogues for the Cameroonian. This is contrary to yesterday’s report from Foot Mercato, which revealed a €30m agreement between the clubs. The French publication added that Baleba had been given permission to travel to the UK.

However, according to Romano, Lille are holding firm on their asking price for Baleba – which is currently set at €30m. Despite there currently being no agreement in place for the 19-year-old, negotiations between the clubs are continuing with an agreement hoped to be found soon. Brighton have highlighted the Lille midfielder to replace Moises Caicedo, who recently completed a British record transfer to Chelsea.

Despite naming Baleba as their key target, the club are also considering alternatives, with Arsenal’s Albert Sambi Lokonga also on their list. Baleba has only made 21 senior appearances for the Northern France outfit to date but is widely regarded as the club’s next breakout star alongside Leny Yoro. Baleba’s current contract at the Stade Pierre Mauroy expires in 2026.
