Linked with a move away from the Hanseaten all summer, Scottish striker Oliver Burke will remain under contract with his current German side for now. SV Werder Bremen confirmed that the 26-year-old would head back to the EFL Championship on his second consecutive loan-out. Burke played for London’s Millwall F.C. during the second half of last season. This year, he’ll suit up for Birmingham City.
“Oliver expressed his wish to be loaned out again in order to get more playing time,” Bremen boss Clemens Fritz remarked in a statement, “We could not guarantee that with us. We hope that he will get a lot of playing time in Birmingham and wish him every success at his new station.”
Burke remains under contract with the Hanseaten through the end of the 2024/25 campaign. Though he never did get a starting role in Bremen nailed down, he did score two goals and garner an assist off the bench for Ole Werner’s side during the first half of last season. Burke had to operate as a makeshift wingback in Bremen’s opening competitive fixtures this year.
