Boxing World Reacts to Superstar Boxer Keyshawn Davis Controversy

It’s been a wild week for could-be superstar boxer Keyshawn Davis.

The American fighter was scheduled to box Edwin de los Santos in a world championship boxing bout atop a Top Rank on ESPN fight card in his hometown in Norfolk, Virginia, on Saturday, the 7th of June. However, on the Friday, Davis failed to make the contracted weight for the fight by a considerable margin, and the fight was canceled. Emergent contender Abdullah Mason was promoted to the headline slot in Keyshawn’s place.

That wasn’t the end of Davis’s bad week. Things, actually, only got worse after Keyshawn and Keon were reported to have “jumped” Nahir Albright after the boxer beat their brother Kelvin Davis on that same card. The boxing world has gone apoplectic as a result.

Boxing World Reacts to Keyshawn Davis Disaster

The stage was set for Keyshawn to continue his ascent to superstardom

“They started walking up to me all tough and put his heads against mine, and grabbed me,” Albright said on the live ESPN broadcast. “I was about to swing but my team and everyone grabbed Keyshawn and everything.”

Elaborating to other reporters per Ring Magazine, Albright said: “I was in my locker room, celebrating my victory with my team, and yeah, Keyshawn and his little brother [Keon] came in and started looking at me. They was saying something about his older brother, like they was mad.

“And he like grabbed me, pushed me bac … he head-butted me.”

Explaining further, he added: “They [were in the] locker room right next door to mine so I guess [they] heard like us like happy and they came in and started trouble. They’re upset that they brother lost. Poor sportsmanship.”

The Davis brothers were reportedly led out of the arena by security.

The boxing world is unanimous in its opposition to the incident, and the behavior that the Davis brothers showed.

TV presenter Dan Canobbio described the week’s events as “embarrassing” for Davis.

Morning Kombat analyst Luke Thomas, also reacting on X, said: “It is hard to overstate how much of a dramatic hit to his career that Keyshawn Davis has suffered. All by his own choices, too.”

Boxing promoter Lou DiBella said Albright “should press charges.” DiBella added: “He beats up a fugazy prospect, suffers very little damage, and gets hurt worse from an assault in his dressing room by his opponent’s bros?!? The Virginia Commission should involve the police. I am flabbergasted. A lack of character imploded boxing careers tonight.”

In a separate post, DiBella also fumed:
