Bournemouth set to sign Leeds midfielder Tyler Adams after triggering his £20m release clause

Bournemouth are reportedly close to signing Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Cherries have activated the 24-year-old’s £20 million release clause to bring him to the Vitality Stadium this summer.

They are now hopeful of securing a transfer as the player is believed to be keen on joining them.

Adams appeared to be heading to Chelsea earlier this summer after they reached an agreement over transfer fee.

But the Blues pulled out of the move as they wanted to pursue deals for Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo and Southampton’s Romeo Lavia.

That allowed Bournemouth to step up their interest and now they are on the verge of sealing a deal for him.

Adams joined Leeds last summer from RB Leipzig in a deal worth £20m. He hit the ground running at Elland Road, starting 24 of the first 27 Premier League matches.

But his campaign was cut short by a hamstring injury in March, which kept him sidelined for the remainder of the season.

The 24-year-old still has four years remaining on his contract in West Yorkshire but he has been tipped to leave following the Whites relegation to the Championship.

Adams mainly plays as a defensive midfielder but he can be used as a right-back as well as a right midfielder.

He is highly rated for his passing, tackling ability, aerial duels and ball interception skills.

The American averaged an impressive 3.7 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 1.0 clearances per game in the English top-flight last season (as per Whoscored).
