Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus has avoided specifically committing to head coach Gerardo Seoane after the team’s latest loss. The foals were understandably whistled down by their own fans following a humiliating 0-4 home defeat at Borussia Park on Sunday. Gladbach remain the only Bundesliga team not to score a goal three matchdays into the 2025/26 campaign.
Just about nothing went right for Seoane’s men in their latest league fixture. Midfielder Rocco Reitz – tasked with donning the captain’s armband on the day – turned in an awful performance during which he looked uncomfortable and cranky throughout. Left flanker Robin Hack – the BMG player who came closest to scoring – remarked that the team “played like shit” in his post-match interview with DAZN.
Club sporting director Roland Virkus dodged questions about Seoane’s future. The club administrator generally known for his cheerful demeanor and emphasis on “positives” had nothing positive to report this time. Though the team did score three goals in their opening round DFB Pokal fixture and looked solid in a 2-0 friendly win over Schalke 04 during the international break, no goals in the Bundesliga simply isn’t good enough.
“There’s no positive trend here,” Virkus remarked in the mixed zone. “What we did well [earlier in the season] was not to be seen here today. We lost 0-4 and that’s going to hurt for a while. Now we have to process the whole thing, let it sink in and take another look at it.
“Please understand that after such a disappointment, one needs to sleep on it first,” Virkus continued. “That’s why I can’t say anything about it right now. It’s certain that we will and must talk about it, process in. Then we’ll see.”
