Werder Bremen’s Horst Steffen picked up his first win as coach during their 4-0 success over Gladbach this evening and expressed his delight at his team’s showing.
“We had a phase at the beginning where we had to defend a lot. Nevertheless, we had our counterattacks, where we were very effective in the first half.
“Winning so clearly against Gladbach is not something we can take for granted. Overall, I’m very pleased with the team’s overall performance,” he added.
One of Bremen’s four goal-scorers, Jens Stage, was equally impressed by what he deemed “a perfect evening” at Borussia-Park.
“If you win 4-0 in Gladbach, then it was a very good game. Everyone showed character today. We played as a compact team and put in a great performance,” the Dane said.
