With 12 months remaining on his current deal, Nico Elvedi (26) could leave Borussia Mönchengladbach this summer and as reported via Kicker, the Bundesliga club have identified Leeds United’s Maximilian Wöber (25) as a potential replacement.
They cite reports in England and as reported by Phil Hay, Wöber has been left out of Leeds’ squad for their pre-season friendly against Monaco on Saturday with Daniel Farke revealing that his omission “has something to do with the transfer situation and also the contract situation.”
Although Wöber only joined Leeds United in January, the Austrian defender can leave the club due to an exit clause in his contract because of their relegation. And as further reported by Kicker, signing Wöber on loan would be an interesting proposition from Gladbach’s point of view.
But a move for Wöber depends on the future of Elvedi. Premier League side Wolves are in active talks to sign Elvedi, who is unwilling to sign an extension beyond 2024 meaning that Gladbach would be open to selling the Swiss defender this summer. As well as Wöber, Borussia Mönchengladbach have also identified Gent’s Jordan Torunarigha as a potential replacement for Elvedi.
