Borussia Dortmund will continue to be without several key players as they look to win successive games in the Bundesliga heading into the international break.
Ahead of today’s game against Mainz 05, Nuri Şahin confirmed that he won’t take any risks with Gregor Kobel, meaning that Alexander Meyer will retain his place in goal. Yan Couto and Julian Ryerson – both of whom missed last weekend’s win against RB Leipzig – featured in the final training session and with Ramy Bensebaini suspended after accumulating five yellow cards, Ryerson is expected to start at left-back, with Pascal Groß retaining his place on the right.
Defensive injuries persist at Dortmund, meaning Emre Can will continue to play alongside Nico Schlotterbeck in the absence of Niklas Süle and Waldemar Anton.
In attack is where Borussia Dortmund are strongest with Karim Adeyemi the only noticeable absentee. Gio Reyna is expected to be named on the bench alongside Jamie Gittens while Julien Duranville remains sidelined.
Predicted Borussia Dortmund XI vs Mainz 05
Alexander Meyer – Pascal Groß, Emre Can, Nico Schlotterbeck, Julian Ryerson – Felix Nmecha, Marcel Sabitzer – Julian Brandt, Maximilian Beier, Donyell Malen – Serhou Guirassy
