Borussia Dortmund are keen to begin discussions with Julian Brandt over a possible contract extension at the club, according to SportBild.
Since the turn of the year, Brandt has been one of BVB’s stand-out players. Currently recovering from a muscular injury, the 26-year-old is eager to get back on the pitch to help his side in the race for the Bundesliga title.
Off the pitch, there is concern that the German international could be tempted away from the club. Entering the last year of his contract, Brandt has gathered interest from Premier League clubs Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.
England has always been an appealing destination for Brandt. Not only because of the league’s competitive nature but also because close friend Kai Havertz plays for fellow London club Chelsea.
For this reason, BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl is keen to set a start date for talks. It’s no secret that Dortmund have Brandt in their plans. Worse case scenario, the forward delays talks and leaves free of charge next year.
