According to Bild, Borussia Dortmund are aiming to sign Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford by the end of this week.
It had previously been reported that BvB were looking into the possibility of luring the 27-year-old to the Westfalenstadion, but a significant stumbling block was the winger’s lucrative wages.
However, with other interested parties pulling out of a deal, Dortmund have elected to make a move for Rashford.
It is understood that Die Schwarzgelben are in pole position to secure the Englishman’s signature, and if everything goes to plan, then he could be announced as a Dortmund player by Thursday, in time for BvB’s clash with Werder Bremen on Saturday.
As to the financial viability of the deal, as stated within the report, signing Rashford on loan would cost Dortmund between €6-8 million, due to the forward’s €400,000-a-week contract.
On top of this, should Die Schwarzgelben look to keep Rashford at the club for the upcoming Club World Cup over the summer, then they would have to pay United a further month’s salary, estimated to be €1.6 million.
Undeniably, this is a significant risk for Dortmund, as the chances of luring Rashford back to the Bundesliga at the end of the campaign are very low, but should they push on to qualify for the Champions League, then it would be a masterstroke from those in charge at the club.
