Bochum work on bringing in journeyman Saidy Janko

VfL Bochum’s club magazine, “Tief im Westen”, reports that the second-year-Bundesliga side is in advanced negotiations to sign another right-back.

Bochum’s defensive re-stocking, according to one of the club’s own sources, shall not stop with the signing of Jordi Osei-Tutu. The VfL’s own club magazine reports that the 1848ers are set to acquire another right-back on the cheap. Veteran Swiss-Gambian fullback/winger Saidy Janko could also be headed to Nordrhein-Westfalen.

The 26-year-old has had quite the journeyman’s career, already playing for Swiss, French, Scottish, and English clubs. Most recently, the former Manchester United academy man represented Real Valladolid in the Spanish second division. After making a contribution to the Puchelle promotion campaign, top tier sides across the continent again have their eyes on him.

Janko’s current estimated market value is roughly €1 million. Should Bochum snap him up, the six-times-capped Gambian international would play for his 11th separate club in his seventh different country. The player remains predominantly a right fullback, but did play further up frequently whilst on loan at Barnsley during the 2016/17 campaign.

The Zürich-born Janko is fluent in German.
