Mundo Deportivo report that Real Madrid player Reinier is close to signing for Portuguese giants Benfica.
Reinier is one of the players returning to Real Madrid this summer following a disappointing loan stint at Borussia Dortmund.
The 20-year-old spent two years at Dortmund where he barely featured. This summer, he will go out on loan again as he has no place in the first team due to his status as a non-EU player.
There had been talk of Reinier joining Ronaldo’s Real Valladolid, who have been recently promoted to La Liga, but it appears that his destination is Benfica.
Portuguese outlet Record reports that Benfica have already made contact with Real Madrid with a view to signing Reinier on loan for the season. The Lisbon club is also in contact with Giuliano Bertolucci, the player’s agent.
Mauro Basília, Reinier’s father, told Record that his son is “very motivated, hopeful and enthusiastic. How can a 20-year-old boy, who is looking to make his dreams come true, not be motivated by the interest of a club of Benfica’s stature? It’s impossible not to be happy. It’s a source of pride, it will be a success and my son will give the response the club needs,” his father said.
