Bayern Munich have reportedly rejected an initial offer from Manchester United for Matthijs de Ligt.
Manchester United have made an initial bid for Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt, according to Bild.
The Red Devils offered €30 million plus €5 million in add-ons, but their bid failed to convince Bayern to sell and the German club have rejected the offer, the report claims.
Bayern are reportedly seeking around €50 million for de Ligt, who is said to have already agreed personal terms with Manchester United.
Bayern supervisory board member Uli Hoeness revealed on Sunday that the club need to offload some prominent players in order to finance further signings.
“No new players will come if no one goes first. [Max [Eberl] and [sporting director] Christoph Freund know very well that new players can only come to FC Bayern if a few prominent players leave,” Hoeness said.
Addressing speculation linking de Ligt with Manchester United, he said:
“It is possible that a defender will leave. De Ligt is Dutch, the manager of Manchester United is Dutch. But I would have no problem with him staying.”
