Bayern Munich have begun their pursuit of Declan Rice from West Ham United, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The England international is Bayern’s and Thomas Tuchel’s number one choice when it comes to holding midfielders. In terms of summer transfer targets for the Bavarians, Rice is the top priority.
West Ham will no doubt hold out for a high price for the 24-year-old. The Hammers have already rejected an €80m offer from city-neighbours Arsenal. However, it’s believed that Bayern will be willing to meet West Ham’s price package.
Any possible deal is still in its infancy, however, should Bayern stay true to their word and offer West Ham what they want, it could be difficult for the Londoners to say no.
If Bayern are to try and bid for Rice, players in midfield will need to be sold. Along with Marcel Sabitzer one of Ryan Gravenberch or Leon Goretzka could be sold. Gravenberch is seen as unsellable, but if a suitable offer for the 21-year-old comes in they will consider a move. While Goretzka has struggled in the second half of the season, but it remains unclear if Bayern will sell the 28-year-old. Bayern had also considered Mateo Kovacic (Chelsea), Marco Verratti (PSG) and Adrian Rabiot (Juventus) but nothing was pursued.
