Sky Germany reports that Bayern Munich are already exploring the market for potential Joshua Kimmich alternatives, with the midfielder’s contract expiring in the summer.
Earlier today it was revealed that Bayern have withdrawn their contract extension offer towards Kimmich after he took too long to make his decision. The new offer was said to be a slight pay increase on his current salary with the new contract expiring in 2028.
The current stance from Die Rekordmeister is if he decides soon that he wishes to extend his contract at the club then the previous offer will still be on the table. However, if Kimmich takes another three to four weeks to accept the offer, an agreement could be in jeopardy.
Bild reported that Bayern wanted a decision on his future after the winter break, they then gave Kimmich extra time as he had yet to come to a decision. Bayern then offered a lowered salary, the same as his current salary and the current offer of a slight pay rise. Die Rekordmeister even promised Kimmich the captaincy once Neuer retired.
Bayern is now exploring the market for potential options to replace Kimmich, as his contract expires in the summer. According to FBref, a player who is very similar to Kimmich in terms of playstyle and overall profile is VfB Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller, who previously played for Bayern’s youth teams.
The 30-year-old is said to have not received any offers from other clubs.
