Bayern Munich announce Karl-Heinz Rummenigge as a new member of the supervisory board

Bayern Munich have today announced the appointment of Karl-Heinz Rummenigge as a new member of the supervisory board. The 67-year-old was the club’s CEO between 2002 and 2021 and was a part of the management that won a historic six titles in 2020.

“I would like to thank the supervisory board for their trust and I look forward to supporting bayern in this body in the future,” said Rummenigge. “I was very fortunate and honoured to celebrate many successes with this club, so I’m happy to comply with the request from the board of directors.”

Rummenigge’s appointment comes after what’s been a busy end to the month for Bayern Munich. A Jamal Musiala goal in the 89th minute against Köln at the weekend secured Bayern their 11th consecutive Bundesliga title. It then emerged that both then CEO Oliver Kahn and Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidžić had been dismissed.

Kahn wasn’t at the RheinEnergieStadion to celebrate Bayern’s latest Championship and he has been replaced by Jan-Christian Dreesen, most recently CFO and Deputy CEO, who has been at the club since 2013.

The club are yet to appoint a replacement for Salihamidžić but names at the forefront of Bayern Munich’s list is Markus Krösche (Eintracht Frankfurt) and Max Eberl (RB Leipzig).

As Bayern Munich pursue the signing of West Ham’s Declan Rice, Rummenigge is a part of the new recruitment team at the club which comprises of Uli Hoeneß, Dreesen, Thomas Tuchel and CFO Dr. Michael Diederich.
