As reported by Florian Plettenberg, both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have pulled out of the race to sign Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah.
The 24-year-old has sustained yet another muscle injury that will see him remain on the sidelines until at least the end of January. Therefore, it looks almost certain that Chalobah will remain in London for the foreseeable future.
After a summer of upheaval at the Säbener Straße, Bayern were unable to sign a multitude of targets, which has ultimately left their squad considerably thin in numbers. One of the players that Der Rekordmeister have looked to acquire for several months is Chelsea’s Chalobah, but a move is now off the table.
Despite Thomas Tuchel’s side considering the option of signing either Sokratis or Jérôme Boateng in recent weeks due to their injury-savaged campaign, other targets will now be assessed during the winter break. As for Dortmund, their interest in Chalobah was not as strong, as they looked to sign Armel Bella-Kotchap from Southampton.
However, Edin Terzić has found a solid centre-back partnership between Mats Hummels and Nico Schlotterbeck, leaving Niklas Süle to fill in at right-back. Therefore, it is unlikely that Dortmund will now venture into the market for a centre-back with the club now prioritising adding further quality in their fullback areas.
