With his contract expiring at the end of the season, Dayot Upamecano’s future remains uncertain.
Bayern have been in talks with the French centre-back about a new deal for a long time, but have so far been unable to come to an agreement with him.
Meanwhile, a number of other top clubs, including Real Madrid, are said to be keeping tabs on Upamecano’s situation.
Despite the uncertainty, Bayern president Herbert Hainer is in good spirits that the Frenchman will still be playing for the Bavarians next season.
“I’m optimistic. Everything I hear, and even when I speak with him myself: he really enjoys being at Bayern, feels extremely comfortable, and also feels very comfortable with the coach,” Hainer told reporters on Thursday.
“Of course I hope that it works out with us. But, as I said, at the end of the day the contract still has to be signed.”
On the competition for Upamecano, Hainer added:
“When you have a player like him, who plays so well, it’s normal that other clubs are interested.”
