Bayer Leverkusen reach agreement with Rennes for Martin Terrier

According to a report by L’Équipe, Bayer Leverkusen have reached an agreement with Stade Rennnais for Martin Terrier (27). Neither the length of the contract that Terrier is expected to sign with the reigning Bundesliga champions nor the fee that will be paid for the Frenchman have been disclosed, although the deal will likely see Adam Hložek (21) sent in the other direction.

This will be the midfielder’s first club outside of France, although prior to his ACL tear in January 2023, he had long been rumoured to be on the radar of English clubs such as Newcastle United, West Ham United, and Leeds United.

A move away from Rennes does not come as much of a surprise, Terrier had a difficult season and had increasingly dropped hints near the tail-end of the campaign that he was considering his future at the club despite having a contract running until 2026.

Martin Terrier: ‘It wouldn’t be illogical if the club wanted to refresh the squad’

Terrier had previously told L’Équipe that he was unsure of his future in Rennes, stating that “I don’t know [the club’s] intentions. I’ve been at Rennes for four years, maybe the club wants to start another project, especially as there isn’t European football next season, with new players. It wouldn’t be illogical if the club wanted to refresh the squad.”
