Kicker reports that Bayer Leverkusen have held a continuing interest in VfB Stuttgart defender Waldemar Anton.
Leverkusen had previously shown an interest in signing the defender in the summer but despite failing to acquire the 27-year-old their interest has not diminished. Anton’s contract at Stuttgart expires in 2025 so if he desires to leave the Swabians, next summer will be the last chance for the club to receive any form of fee.
If Anton wishes to stay, then Stuttgart quicken any potential contract negotiations to avoid the 27-year-old’s head being turned.
With constant rumours surrounding the future of Jonathan Tah, Edmond Tapsoba and Piero Hincapié it makes sense for Leverkusen to be developing a a list of potential replacements.
This season, Anton has taken on a greater role at Stuttgart being appointed captain after the departure of Wataru Endo, whilst also continuing to be a stalwart of their defence playing either as a centre-back or a right-back.
