Three members of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona tonight secured for themselves the status of Olympic champions.
This comes owing to developments in the Olympic final between Spain and France.
The two nations locked horns a short time ago, playing out an eventual eight-goal thriller in Paris.
When all was said and done, though, it was Spain who emerged on the right side of a 5-3 result, owing to doubles on the part of Fermín López and Sergio Camello, either side of an Álex Baena free-kick.
Fermín, in the process, took his tally to six goals for the tournament, pushing his name firmly into the conversation for Player of the Games.
Not only that, but he and Villarreal standout Baena have now, in the same summer, secured glory with Spain at both Euro 2024, and the Olympic Games.
Elsewhere in Hansi Flick’s Barcelona squad, meanwhile, Eric García and Pau Cubarsí, both of whom featured from the off on Friday, can now call themselves Olympic champions, too.
Congratulations, Spain!
