Athletico Paranaense forward Vitor Roque has declared his interest in playing for Barcelona amid speculation with the Catalan giants.
Barca have identified the Brazilian sensation as a top target for the summer and are said to be ready to go all out for his services despite competition from a host of European heavyweights.
Having had his breakthrough campaign with Paranaense last year, Roque must have seen his stock soared up following his prolific campaign at the South American U-20 championship, where he netted six goals in eight games.
A move to a big club is just around the corner for the 19-year-old, who has the potential to follow in the footsteps of an array of Brazilian talents who have made a greater impact in Europe in recent years.
In an extensive interview with Diario Sport, Roque touched on a wide range of topics, including the rumours linking him with Barca.
From picking Camp Nou as his dream stadium to revealing his desire to play next to Robert Lewandowski, Roque made no secret of his desire to join the Blaugrana.
“Yes, it is a dream not only mine but also of any player that appears. If I end up going to Barça, it will be a great joy for my family and for me… for this reason, I have to continue working hard and hope that everything will come to fruition over time,” Roque said.
When asked if he would be happy to play alongside Lewandowski next season, the Brazilian replied: “When I see him on TV I always notice his great finishing power, which I think is his strong point. He is spectacular, I already followed him at Bayern Munich and now at Barcelona.
“Yes, of course. If I had a footballer by my side of this level, I would try to learn as much as I could. If this ends up happening, I’m sure it will be very important for my career. It would be something wonderful.”
Barca recruited Raphinha from Leeds United last summer and are now looking to enrich their Brazilian contingent with Roque.
Roque can be the solution to Barca’s attacking woes and a valuable investment for the club’s long-term plans.
